- ever read about the gold farms in China?
- Think of a telemarketing company, but instead of selling stuff via phone the employees are all on computer terminals controlling characters inside WoW (and other MMORPGs)where they collect items that are valuable to other players that are sold by the firm they are working for. WoW even has in game characters that are actually security people looking for players with a poor command of English who seem to avoid certain normal in-game behaviors. One of the PC gaming mags I read stopped accepting advertisements from gold farmers. Most recently I read that the IRS is looking into taxing in-game assetts. Unbelievable!!! Ever heard of a MMORPG called Second Life? Check it out for a real eye opener. It has a huge in-game economy that translates into real $$$$$? Would you pay $2000.00 + real money for a piece of virtual real estate? People in that game do. They work jobs, provide services, spend, buy, and more. A true Second Life. There are even prostitutes!
