Don't even use Firefox if you can avoid it, but the difference between the security problems in Firefox and the security problems in IE are like the differences between not washing your hands after you go to the bathroom, and running barefoot over broken glass through the "hot ward" during an ebola epidemic and snogging the patients.

Using "Protected Mode" on Vista is like washing your feet afterwards.

Best would be to use a KHTML-based browser like KMelion. Unfortunately there don't seem to be any really good KHTML browsers available for Windows.
