Desktops will remain significant, will not go away
Laptops may be growing because of mobility, but desktops are going to remain for all of the reasons stated by the other people here.

While notebooks generally have a role to fill, so do desktops! We still very much need desktops. They are still cheaper to buy and maintain, and are generally more powerful. In places where mobility is not important, the desktop remains the best choice.
