Make it translucent and lighter....
Just think of the HUD (Heads Up Displays) pilots use, especially in combat. All the important info is projected onto a slanted screen between the eyes and the windscreen, and you can focus on the info or look outside and fight the battle without ever having to look down in the cockpit and lose your situational awareness. Give it a little more development and I can see every soldier and Marine having something like this, connected to the vidcam on the weapon and at the same time linked to the squad leader, platoon leader, company commander, the close air support jet and helicopter pilots and the all-seeing eyes in the sky in the AWACS and J-STARS above. The Iraqis and Afghans think our troops are supermen with x-ray vision already, with this the potential enemy will not have even as slim a chance as they do now. This has AWESOME possibilities beyond that. How about the traffic cop with a connection to the police helicopter? Or.... The only limit is the imagination of the people writing the software and linkages.
