Depending on the model, a 42-inch flat-screen TV consumes between 100 to 250 watts when turned on. Assuming it's on five hours a day, that's something like 200 to 470 kWh/year, or about $500 depending on where you live, Horowitz said.

The annual cost calculation assumes electricity is $1.00/kWh!!! The range should be $0.08 to $0.12 per kWh for a total cost range of $26.00 (200kWh @ $0.08) to $56.40 (40kWh @$0.12).
