The size of the sensor's pixels to capture light and detail is as important as the quantity of pixels.

A smaller sensor results in more noise because of how closely placed the pixels are.

A DSLR is rather more costly, but the images are sharper and richer, and no image cleaning is needed.

Despite badly wanting to, I won't go into detail on brand names -- I think that's a no-no and is tangential to this article... grin
