True, the Apple TV is just a basic media system but...
Barrier to entry... leveraging their iTunes monopoly to create another one. Typical Apple.

iTunes is not a barrier to entry, it is the largest advantage any of these sysems has. iTunes has the largest online selection of media in the world (BY A HUGE MARGIN)

It doesn't really matter what features your system has if it only has a limited selection music,movies, TV shows ETC...

The XBOX 360 is not a bad system. Infact I will probably get one when Halo3 caomes out. However it's much more expensive, espeically if you get the HD upgrade required to play high-def movies. But then again you can only watch the limited number of movies the few studios who support HDDVD decide to release on that format.

Personally, I'm going to wait a year or so to see where the market is before I jump in.
