- Don't confuse Directv Tivo and Tivo
- Like my subject says, be careful that you don't confuse the lame duck Directv calls its Tivo and regular Tivo. Almost everything I've heard about the stand alone Tivo boxes is good. I should have bought one of them instead of the Directv Tivo. Directv Tivo started to go downhill when, about two years ago, Directv made the decision to break its contract with Tivo and no longer use Tivo for its DVR services. It started its own DVR services (to mixed reviews). The result is that Directv Tivo did not get any upgrades since version... ummm... 1.5 or so? I don't remember off the top of my head which version exactly, but it was the one before Tivo2go first came out. Yes, Tivo was supposedly supposed to provide continued support for the old boxes, and Directv was supposed to not 'cripple' those boxes, but I didn't hold my breath. Bottom line? I believe this issue has more to do with Directv technology moving forward and the old Directv Tivo boxes not being able to keep up than about the Tivo service itself being bad.
