DSS & Tivo have split.
DSS & Tivo no longer have a contract, but both are suppose to live up to the contracts of existing Tivo DVR's....
New DSS DVR's come with DSS's own brand of Tivo style content software....
I too am calling around to Comcast, Dish, etc instead of just automatically sticking to DSS and upgrading.
DSS is getting where they try to dollar you to death.
$5 bucks here, $6 there and what do you get??? Stations you never watch and radio stations you never listen to.....

Info: Looking into buying a Tivo from Tivo when I get my new HDTV, I found Tivo does still make a DVR that can accept a cable ot DSS card...... For $800.00 plus!!! Glad I don't own stock in that company ;-D

DSS= $299.00 one time and 5 bucks a month there after And the DRV still isn't yours..... But if it breaks... YOU have to pay for it (although DSS claims you are just leasing it).. Oh! But you can buy insurance for 10 bucks a month..... KMA, Cable is a tad more expensive, but they take care of repairs for free (which includes replacing your DVR if it malfunctions.
Hmmm... I wonder what they're DRV guide is like wink
