Not known for interoperability? Gimme a break!
Saying Apple doesn't make its products interoperable with others is absurd. All
the components and connections for their PCs feature industry standard interfaces
- USB, FireWire, RJ45, PCI, AGP, PCIe, ATA, SATA, SCSI and so on. All their
networking uses standard TCP/IP, PPP, 802.11a/b/g/n etc. Even the iPod
connector is licenced to car manufacturers and peripheral makers. Anyone can
write software to interoperate with Macs and any peripheral device, including
iPods.

How come I can plug in a Fuji camera and easily copy photos to my HD? Or a
Panasonic DVD camera? Or a Microsoft mouse? Or a La Cie DVD burner? Or a
generic USB key? A DLink wireless base station and router? Xerox network
printer? Not one of these devices has a bespoke Apple connector or software,
they simply support appropriate interface standards and so does Apple.

One of the very few things Apple hasn't licenced is its FairPlay DRM, but that's not
an interface it's an encryption standard. Name any Apple product that doesn't
easily interoperate with other products.
