Bragging rights for techies only.
Excellent HD tv's at 32" cost $500, a good VCR/DVD combo player cost $79.00. I hope the super wealthy don't play the keeping up with the Jones's game and buy every $1500-3900 LCD, DLP, or Plasma, then go out and buy a blu-ray or HD DVD for another $700. This will make the cost of playing rental movies much higher in the short run, if current DVD standards fade. I hope these competing standards fizzle out. If not, I see Pay Per View looking like a pretty good option. I like to make a backup copy of the original movie I buy to keep it in pristine condition. Kids are hard on DVD disks. I'm also glad the Nentendo Wii is doing so well versus the PS3 and X-Box as it is less than $300.00. All this high tech is inhalig your hard earned money. I enjoy gadgets, like memory and heated seats, but time will tell if these players come down in price. My first VCR was selling for $750. I bought it 4 months later for $450.00. Six months later a 4 head VCR was $200.00. Competition is great and will take care of this standards problem.
