Obviously, you should only buy what you need or want.

But, many people never think about this: Your HDTV was a large purchase. The more you use HD, the more use you get out of the money you spent.

So, if you wait 5 years, you will have wasted your money through not using your TV to it's potential.

If you are worried that the new technology is 1080p, and that's what you mean about getting a new set, your TV will down convert the material to 720p. Actually, the players probably have 480p, 720p, 1080i and p selections.

So, you will be enjoying high quality, high definition images. The increase of resolution to 1080p, while noticable and enjoyable is probably not a good reason to buy a new TV.
