Who cares?
Until you have a HD TV, who cares about HD DVD or BluRay. AND, since is is WAY too early to waste a lot of money on constantly changing HD TVs, both formats can go fry as far as I am concerned.

Just think about it. They keep changing the HDTVs so that anyone, today, with over a 2 year old set is screwed, and, they are doing it again this year, and will again next. Changes that introduce incompatibilities.

Think about it. The designs are screwy from the ground up. Buy a nice 1920 x 1080 set so you can get top notch resolution with no scaling artifacts. Can't do it. ALL sets, LCD, Plazma, ALL, OVERSCAN. So, that 1920 x 1080 signal you have will be distorted to something larger (overscan) so that what you see will NEVER be right. Physically impossible.

Maybe when they get the 4K TVs up and running they will have that problem licked, but until then, forget it. Every year the "standard" units sold are changed and the older owners get screwed. So, don't buy. That simple.
