One Consumer's View
I have a 50" HD WS projection TV. It's apx 5 years old and cost about $2400 at the time of purchase. It supports 720p and 1080i, with no DVI or HDMI inputs.

Frankly, until this thing dies and/or it costs more to fix than replace, it's all I'm going to invest in. Anything that needs more than these specs is irrelevant, until this component is replaced.

Anyone in this position; that watches how they spend they're money and is not an early adopter regardless of price, will not want to get into this Standards foray - unless they have to replace their existing TV now.

Since, I should be able to wait another 5 years, which is a dismal lifespan for a TV that costs this kind of money and TV technology doesn't move at the rate of PC technology, the consumer will be the winner once these issues are resolved.

This gives the majority of consumer's time to let 'em duke it out until there's a clear winner ala Beta/VHS and/or multi format players come to a reasonable pricing structure. The solution is Multi-format players and let the Movie industry screw each other as they choose. In the end, the Entertainment industry will be making the same format DVDs they do now until
there's enough consumer acceptance of either of these formats. Now all the have to worry about is quality content fit to purchase.

I would be highly surprised if the multi format issue was significantly resolved in less than 2 years.
