I don't anyone who'd bought either yet
Everyone is saying the same thing, they aren't buying because the content is over priced. $40 for DVD is too much so they will stick with regular DVD. Quality alone is not a compelling enough reason to pay more for a product. Quality and features is. What does Blu-Ray or HD-DVD offer beside High Definition quality? Nothing from what I see and that will be the downfall of those formats. So either drop the price or lose!

DVDs got popular because DVDs were cheap when they first got going. Cheaper than buying VHS during that time of adoption. Then when DVDs were established they raised prices of DVDs and VHS tape prices dropped big time but at the same time VHS also disappeared off most shelves too.

I know some people might point to the late 90s when DVDs were selling for a really high price but then so were VHS movies. Only big difference was there weren't bargain bins of DVDs but there were for VHS. So Blu-Ray and HD-DVD are at this point and have been there for some time. If they don't reduce prices like they did with regular DVDs they will be sunk by a new format.

So in the end would you pay $600-$800 for a format where the content is grossly over priced compared to regular DVDs and risk that the format will be dead in few years? I wouldn't.
