Stupidity hurts sales
This whole two format thing is absolutely insane. No one cares about the format! No one cares about who's technology it is! People just want to buy something and not have to worry about it working. So what if one costs $400 and the other costs $600. I think the smart consumer would rather pay $800 and not worry about which format they have to buy. Ulimately one will become more popular but until then, why wouldn't any one buy something that 'Just Works!'. I guess companies like to screw over their customers but that doesn't make for very loyal customers in the end. The manufacturers only end up hurting their own reputation and once burned-twice shy is not something I think any smart company would want to hear. (By the way I was a big Sony customer but over the years they have managed to shift my interest to Pioneer (thanks Sony for the MD player-a technology wonder in its day, if you guys had half a brain they would have been in every PC) So my hat is off to LG. To date I haven't really purchased anything LG specifically but hey, if they got the brains to make my life easier on trivial crap like HD format, then I just might become one of their very loyal customers.
