Combo is the answer
So what will likely happen is a combo hard drive and flash drive. The OS is on the flash part, Windows Registry etc. as well. The transient stuff will go on the disk drive. With all my OS, Registry, program files and the other junk permanently on the flash, I can change it but only the volatile part will need to be in RAM. Most of what gets loaded into RAM on boot is not used that often. When you redo the OS to something equivalent to my Palm OS, with instant on and a small lag to a program, then you differentiate between what you need to put on the flash and what can reside on the hard drive. Gives you the size of the HD and the speed of the flash.
