I remember...
My first iPod was a gen 2 with firewire. What made it great wasn't the fact that it held my (then 6 gig) music collection. It wasn't that it looked nice and had decent battery life. What made it great was the fact that I could boot my Mac on it too (even if it was slllooooowwwww).

Now, no one makes an MP3 player you can boot your computer off of and they're all starting to clone each other. Eventually, we'll have a winner in the iPod VS Zune VS Sansa VS everyone else battle...in the mean time, maybe we'll get real innovation like full-length touch screens, wireless g/n and wireless usb music transfers, 24 hour battery life, integrated bluetooth for headphones, and better-quality players overall.

Bring back the geek factor and we'll have a real race.
