I didn't miss the point
3 years ago, the iPod wasn't the best player. It was the best looking player. It had a bad amp section (noisey) and couldn't play back albums gaplessly. If you wanted to listen to Dark Side of the Moon or a live album, the iPod couldn't do it, UNLESS you turned each side of the album into a single track.

It took 3 or 4 years for them to implement a feature tha'ts been available on cassette, vinyl and CD's since each of those technologies were introduced. It was available on most (if not all) software players and it was available on Rio Products as well as some other DAPs.

I can promise you that when i started looking at DAPs, the first place I looked was apple, and it was unacceptable. Until this fall, it remained unacceptable. There's a reason why Rio owners were buying up NOS, used Karmas and searched for sources for larger HD's to stick in their old units: until 2 months ago they couldn't find an acceptable alternative (*).

(*) about a year earlier you could replace the iPod softare with rockbox, which basically made it an iPod case with a rockbox DaP.
