Most innovative?
Please. Rio's Karma was innovative. It had gapless playback 3 or 4 years ago. It took apple 3 or 4 years to figure out gapless. From a UI POV, they were both excellent, and it really was a matter of taste as to which you preferred. I personally liked the Karma's UI better, but to each his or her own.

As for being the "coolest," I don't buy music equipment to be cool. I buy it to listen to music. Apple's improved dramatically over the last several years, but 3 or so years back, they were known for having less than stellar audio (poor amp/preamp section), yet people gobbled them up, because they looked cool (and they did).

The problem is that looking cool won't last forever. If someone comes out with a better device, they'll win. Nothing is forever. Ask IBM, Sony, ATT (and I don't mean the company formerly known as SBC) or GM.
