Comcast DVR's Prone to Excessive Overheating
Buy a real TiVo. Trust me, I had 4 Comcast DVR boxes in the course of one year. They usually overheat, even when in well ventilated space. This exhibits itself by either making the software lockup, or by sheer heat that you could smell across a room.

Comcast did replace the boxes every few months as they broke down. However, the software was extremely slow in responding to remote control commands. You'd hit pause, it would keep playing for a few seconds, then pause. Putting a fan blowing on it reduced this effect.

Buy a real TiVo. The TiVo box is well ventilated and never has given me a single problem
