What all the critics of the Wii hardware have so far failed to recognize is the fact that despite all of the hooplah, technical power rarely sells a game console.
Perhaps the best example of this fact is the enduring success of Nintendo's Game Boy series of portable consoles, which despite the existence of MANY technically-superior platforms, came out as the most successful video game machine of all time.
Other notable examples would include the failure of the Sega Dreamcast (whose contemporaries were the original Playstation and Nintendo 64), and the lagging of X-Box and Gamecube sales behind the technically inferior Playstation 2. In the case of the X-Box, it probably would not have shipped nearly as many units were it not for that wonderful little title/killer app, "Halo," whose PC version Microsoft first delayed and later crippled performance-wise to boost X-Box sales.
Honestly, if technical performance is that critical to your gaming experience, go play on your PC, where that $500 graphics card can actually be put to use in piling unneccessary (and, as far as the human eye is concerned, undetectable) frames per second onto the latest murder simulator. Honestly, I don't even own a television that would let me see the difference between the output of Wii hardware versus a PS3 or 360, and given the fact that I could buy 4 or 5 games (or download dozens of older titles) to go along with the Wii with the money I save on the hardware, I think that for me (and anyone else on a limited budget), the Wii is a much more attractive option.
By the way, everyone out there should understand that there is a traditional-style adaptor for the Wii controller, so you don't have to use the motion-sensing feature to control your downloaded games or other more traditional software titles. - Posted by: multanihl Posted on: 10/17/06 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
