Check the graphics on your PS1 vs. the N64 or the DC. It was by far the worst, it was all blocky and slow. Hell, My SNES graphics are almost as good as a PS1.
And as for "People simply updated what they already knew" - Surely that is the definition of overrated, people not buying something based on how good the product actually is, but just because it says Sony...
And for the record I have owned the following consoles:-
Master system, NES, SNES, Megadrive, PC Engine, Neo-Geo AES, Saturn, DC, PS1, N64, PS2, Neo-Geo pocket colour, GBA, X-Box & X-box360... So I speak with experience... The Playstations were ALL overrated.
