wasted money on an HD set?!
While I have no problem with most of your message, to say an HD set is a "waste of money" is ludicrous at minimum. I'm 53 next week, and your letter makes me think that you're not just a "cheap old sot" as you put it, but a blind one that is living in some other country and completely out of touch with what is going on. Virtually ALL of today's prime time broadcasting (not to mention sporting events)is in HD, and you can get it free in most markets with the addition of a decent antenna (assuming of course that you have an HD display). As for the debt, I have no doubt you're correct there as my brother is the same as your relatives, but that applies to all things in his life...Me? I have 2 HD sets, 4 DVD players, a host of "high end" audio/video equipment and don't owe anyone a dime on any of it. No, I'm not rich; it's just that the wife and I have one hobby and we save for it.
