I think you're reading a lot more into my comment than was really there. First of all, you're conflating malware and software/hardware failure. These are two very different subjects. The article is about customer satisfaction, so I would think we're talking about repair history and reliability, not so much malware.

Next, I'm not sure most people consider commercials to be "hijacking" but instead are part of the social contract we engage in with network television. Calling it a hijacking is the equivalent of subscribing to AOL and complaining that the browser they give you is branded with "AOL".

Phones are an interesting comparison, not the way you did it, but cel phones. While coverage has gotten better in recent years, it's still pretty spotty, and calls get dropped all the time. Cel phones are definitely a product where we accept a high failure rate.

And again with the car, you are mighty sensitive about malware today. I said "break down" because I meant break down. As in stop working.
