Wrong comparison
Would you accept the same level of issues you have with your computer for your television?

Excellent example. Do you think most people buy TVs to watch commercials? I'm guessing not. But every single time a commercial comes on, your TV has been hijacked by someone else for their purposes, much to your dismay. A computer that has been infected isn't "broken" by your definition, it is being used by someone else for their purposes. Your computer is still calculating 1s and 0s, it is working just fine! Likewise, every time your TV shows you a commercial, it is working just fine even though it is doing something against your will. So yes, most accept the same level of issues with their TV that they do with their computer.

Another example: telephones. Are telemarketers calling you during dinner the proof of a broken telephone? After all, isn't the telephone simply doing exactly what it was designed to do: ring every time someone dials your phone number. Again, most people accept the same level of issues with phones that they do with computers.

Your automobile? Sure, it breaks down every 100 feet, but it was really cheap.

Again your are equating something being used for a purpose other than what you bought it for with something "breaking". The two aren't the same. You bring up "breaking down every 100 feet" but again, a computer isn't really "broken" when it gets infected, it is simply being used by someone else in a manner you disapprove of. Likewise, cars get stolen every single second of every single day, probably more often than computer gets infected with malware! Do you have a car? Then you are allowing car companies to get away with security even worse than what you find with Windows.

The analogy that you (and many others) bring up is not an analogy you probably want to bring up since it actually disproves your hypothesis that people won't put up with products that don't work the way they want them to in any area other than computers. The truth is that people most certainly do put up with commercials, telemarketers, and lousy automobile security.
