Well, they did deliver
XP SP2, which probably took a lot of programming resources.
Probably helped them with Vista in some areas also.

Right now MS is fighting battles and Apple is going pretty well -
sort of a change of fortunes since Stave Jobs returned.

Since Apple is now guessing Spring 07 for Leopard it's going to be
interesting so see what comes to market first - Vista or Leopard.
