Live in the real world
So long as 90+% of the world's personal computers run some Microsoft OS, that's what most college students should be using. Computer Science majors should probably be multi-booting by now or running something like VMWare.

I like Linux a lot, but it will be years before it puts a big dent in the MS juggernaut. I expect it WILL, but the tipping point will be from MASSIVE adoption in Asia and 3rd world countries that cannot afford the MS tax. Eventually, it will work its way back to the U.S., like GSM phones.

But don't expect mainstream universities in this country to take up the Linux flag. Yet.
