Double WOW
Yes, I am obliged to prove YOU wrong

>>> At first glance, I thought, "Man, this Mac user actually has a decent point." Then I read your post and found that it consisted of the same, ego-centric frill that usually emanates from Mac keyboards. As such, I am obliged to prove you wrong. >>>

Nice try but it's you who's wrong and basing "factual" (cough) comments on opinion and lack of Mac use, knowledge and/or experience.

>>> "We artsy people like our computers to work for us seemlessly not like clunky Windows."

I'm a 3D animator who uses 3D Studio Max. MacBook Pros have pitiful graphics horsepower which is hindered even further by the useless eye-candy of Mac OS X. That, and they cost more than the more powerful, 17-inch laptops offered by Dell. >>>

Like the "useless" OS X eye candy being copied by MS in Vista? (even down to the Aqua blue, "jewel" 3D buttons)

Yours is an "opinion" that detracts from the overall general reliability and power in OS X (with it's UNIX-based core). I often half 7 or more apps open with no problem (Photoshop, Illustrator, Final Cut Express, Dreamweaver, Acrobat, Firefox, Safari, Thunderbird, InDesign, with Word and Powerpoint as needed, etc). With a 1GB of memory I often forget or don't realize I have so many apps running concurrently and seamlessly.

Final Cut Pro (Suite) and Photoshop (Suite, CS1/2) on an Apple laptop have become common place in the media world (video/film, audio, photography, graphics)... much more than Apple's less than 5% marketshare would seem likely. Maybe all those professional users know something you don't or are they all just more talented and capable?

OS X has actually improved with each new version or upgrade (ie, seems faster even on older machines). Can't say the same about Windows revisions (each more bloated, kludgier, virus/malware prone, etc).

I'm not claiming OS X is perfect (nothing is) but

>>> Speak for yourself. I'm an artsy person, and maybe if Mac OS X actually did work "seamlessly" when I used it, I'd have liked it. However, when FinalCut Pro crashed twice every 45 minutes >>>

some/all of your problems may stem from YOU not knowing what you're doing (with a Mac) plus your obvious Windows bias (and supposed "expertise"). Working with Windows support staff has shown me they have no idea about setting up, using, or maintaining a Mac and often blame the Mac for their own shortcomings (read "ignorance of the platform"). They live in their Windows world and (usually) don't want to learn or know of anything else... sounds like you.

>>>"Still I think Apple would make a 20" about half that weight with more features."

Unfortunately, it would probably come with a handicapped graphics card and half the memory as the Dell, but Mac zealots such as yourself frequently sweep that little bit under the rug. Oh, and then there're the features that the Dell has that the Mac would lack... those also go without mention. >>>

Your baseless opinion and no, it?s usually Windows zealots like yourself that try to make a one-to-one comparisons and sweep differences under the rug (ie, the biggest being the quality, ease-of-use, seamless operation and (in comparison to Windows) relatively lower maintenance of the Mac (especially for novice users and virus/malware problems)).

Dell may have some features the Mac lacks but it also goes the other way (features and usefulness/desirability). By the time you add all the Dell options to match an equivalent Mac, the prices are usually comparable.

ie cheapest Dell 17" (Inspiron) has built-in video (shared RAM, not a separate card), 1.66Ghz processor (vs 2.16 Mac), less RAM, smaller drive, no camera or back-lit keyboard, "drop-protection", etc than the low end 17" Apple

Trying to compare Apples to lemons.

>>> It's like Apple's marketing department. >>>

ROTFLMAO !!! Talk of the pot calling the kettle black !!! MS is THE marketing PR BS pro. Apple has a lot (the only thing) to learn from MS re hype, vapourware and over-the-top marketing.

>>>"My 20" iMac weighs less than 20 lbs."

It also can't be run on battery power. >>>

It's not intended to be a pretend, over-weight laptop.

>>> It also doesn't have eight speakers and a subwoofer. >>>

It doesn't need it as it's not the intended market (ie, media centre).

Plus you're paying a lot more for all these "features" you're trying to flaunt. Where's your "Macs are (always) more expensive than PCs" argument?

>>> It also has half the graphics card the Dell has. >>>

Not quite "half the card" (ATI 1800 vs the 1600, both with 256 MB). Also see intended usage above.

>>> It also doesn't have wireless. >>>

Nice closing to prove your total ignorance of the iMac (any Mac) as they all come with built-in Airport Extreme (wireless) & Bluetooth... even the "cheap", low-end mini.

And, the most expensive iMac comes out less expensive than the least expensive Dell XPS M2010.

Plus you have the highly rated (by third parties) Apple customer service and satisfaction (beating Dell which has fallen) and the aforementioned included quality Apple apps and OS X (and not Windows).

What price do you place on peace of mind and less hassles?

>>> *sigh* >>>

Yes, double sigh.

You should do at least a BIT of research (with perhaps some real experience in using the product) before getting into mindless, uniformed bashing.
