What a waste
With millions of PCs running XP available on eBay for around $100-$200, why do we need an expensive non-standard PC for the third world? Add a $15 USB wireless connection and you're done. You have a sophisticated OS, maximum compatibility AND a hard drive. If you really want it to be outside any electric grid, then invent a hand cranked power supply.

Is it just that they're poor and need help, so we have to give them some sort of cult PC? Doomed only to talk to *nixers for the rest of their lives, unable to use all the Windows apps out there.

Corporations should be donating their last generation PCs. Sure the Third World are not going to be playing the latest games on Pentium or AMDs at 1.8GHZ but they will run all other software and they'll be able to join the rest of computing humanity (well 95% anyway). If they really want to join a cult they can even boot *nix on the boxes.

When everyone seems to be into recycling, why are we creating new, barely functional junk or is it just NN's ego that needs to be stroked?
