- "Orientate" is an ugly word often used in place of the simpler, more attractive, "orient". It is my impression, although I could well be wrong, that the Brits frequently use orientate. While some of the most beautiful and moving English prose has come from that them, there is no need to adopt all their awkward fumbles.
