DRM is a double edged sword
The phrase "hoist by their own petard" comes to mind here. The RIAA companies have no leverage whatsoever against Apple here. Apple owns by far the top online music store, the DRM system it uses and the top player and only DRM system it uses. The only way the RIAA could have any leverage over Apple would be to open a different store (or allow existing stores) to sell music without any DRM.

Of course, they won't do this. So they're stuck, essentially powerless here. Kind of funny, really.
