So don't buy from Apple
Seriously, why get your ******* into a twist over this? Apple doesn't offer what you want, go buy from someone else. Big deal. I'm a long-time Mac user and I won't buy from the iTunes store, because my home set-up consists of several Squeezeboxes that I stream music to wirelessly. The Squeezebox can't play any DRM'ed music, so I won't buy any. No big deal. As I said below, I don't expect every company's products to fit my exact needs. I buy what works and don't buy what doesn't work.

But in the long run, you're still better off buying things on cd than you are the electronic version. You get a much higher quality of sound, you get a solid backup that will last decades, and you get more flexibility in file formats without any resultant loss in sound quality. That's the way to go, and better yet, buy cds from independent labels or if you must buy mainstream music, buy them used.
