Odd reasoning
---I'm not paying a buck a song for protected content I could lose access too if anything were to ever happen to iTunes or Apple (no more authentication).---

You'd rather pay a monthly subscription fee for a service that, if the provider goes out of business, you'd be left with nothing, and if you stop paying for a month, you're left with nothing, so you'll have to keep paying perpetually. You'd rather do this than buy a song once, and if something should happen to Apple, you can burn it to a cd just fine and continue to listen to it.

Doesn't seem all that risky to me.

(note: I don't buy from any service because none can be streamed through a Squeezebox).
