Let's say you are a reporter...
...and I am known to you as a member of the Lotus Development Team at IBM and I know this. Let's also say that you are known to ma as a reporter and you know this.

Now let's say that I send yo an e-mail saying, "Hey, I'm really excited about the latest Lotus Dominos/Notes coming oout in two weeks! Here are some of the new features our customers will see at the unveiling at the Seatle user conference." <>

Would you think to yourself,
A. "Hey, I just uncovered a leak!"
B. "Hey, now here's a story!"
C. "Hey, I am about to become famous for outing IBM's plans!"

Personally, I would think A. Employees in the know do not give information to members of the press unless it was meant for publication. The only off chance of that would be if I had said, "Oh, Shellie, my friend, keep this off the record, please. I am only interested in what you think as one friend to another. You will get an official news release closer to the conference date in Seattle. Thanks. You're the best!"

I get it as an apparent Press release because a bone fide employee of Apple sent it to a bone fide web publisher with no disclaimers nor request for payment.

The fact that it was not approved of by the company only became obvious when the another company employee approached the publisher and requested it be removed. The publisher did so without hesitation. Prior to the removal request by that employee, there was nothing to indicate to the publisher that this was a deliberate leak, an accidental leak, or some form of hush-hush trade secret. Surely not a trade secret if the product was to be released soon.
