There's a dark horse in this race
All that the market really needs right now is an enhanced version of good old DVD. The new version will allow for newer compression codecs such as WMV9 and 264. With these codecs, guess what?--Surprise! You no longer need 30+GB to store an HD movie--regular DVD (and dual-layer DVD) will do just fine.

I'm waiting for some enormous Chinese company to just say, "Screw the HD-DVD and BluRay formats, with their insane DRM and licensing fees. We'll go a different direction."

And I bet they'll win.
