They make their money on consumables, not HW.
"If HP builds the new printers like this one they'll be their own worst competition. After all, no reason for me to replace something that's been this reliable."

The money in printers is on ink & toner, so this really probably doesn't hurt them after all. There really isn't any margin in printer hardware, but you have to sell the printer to sell the consumables.
