Only happens a little
Yeah, that happens sometimes when you install an update. It?s
very random and only happens on some machines. When we
updated to 10.3.8, I lost Word and Acrobat CS (launch ? quit
right away) and had to reinstall those apps. Then everything was
ok. Others in the office, with the same machine didn?t have the
problem, but one person lost Photoshop and had to reinstall.
Going to 10.3.9 gave us no problems.

There is no instability in the system. It?s just that, the way some
machines are configured seems to interfere with the update.
There is never any reason to have to wipe the drive or reinstall
the OS. When it the first thing is to trash the prefs for that app.
If trashing prefs (especially Adobe because you change them so
often in the course of work) doesn?t clear the problem, you
retrash the prefs and reinstall the app. The whole operation
should be done in under 10 minutes. If you?re hooked up to a
backup, you can just drag the prefs and app folder from the
backup and you?ll be done in less than a minute.

Most people who have continuing problems have not trashed
prefs (something that all users ? both Mac and PC ? have been
doing since the beginning of time to restore problem apps)
