Um, I can already do all that....
Intel's main promise for Viiv-branded products is that they will allow home entertainment buffs to stream downloaded video files from a PC's hard drive to a television in another room of the house, or move those files to a handheld personal media player.

Ummm, I can already do all that - so long as I "restrict" myself to non DRM media. My DVD player plays DivX discs and has a media card slot so there's no need to burn a disk if you don't want to. The optical output of the player is connected to my HiFi for music playback.

This super gadget cost me $60. It seems these days that the really expensive (name brand) kit has less features than the cheap stuff. Heaven forbid that a SONY player should ever do mp3/DivX.

If this sneakernet option is too much work for you then there's also plenty of boxes on the market which will stream DivX/mp3 via WiFi for you.

All in all, this is yet another hype campaign to sell a substandard solution to a non-existant problem at double the price.
