What does MS make to compete with the iPod?
It's really simple, file format. As the iPod (and iTunes) doesn't
play .wma files. Windows media player doesn't play .aac files. To
Microsoft (and Apple) the file format is important. If people choose
the .wma format, they won't buy an iPod. If they choose the .aac
format, they will use iTunes (instead of windows media player). It's
all about the format. Kind of like the old VHS vs. Betamax situation.
This should be looked into, though I don't think anything would
come of it.
