Try this
Try listening to an iPod with the enclosed earbud headphones at maximum volume. Then try listening to the iPod also at maximum volume with any other pair of headphones you have lying around the house (if they have adjustable volume control, turn it all the way up). The ones that came with the iPod are MUCH louder, and hence do MUCH more damage.

The car analogy does not work because the car manufacturer knows a driver must understand the speed laws in order to have a drivers license. You don't need a license to operate an iPod. But you can do damage with an iPod without realizing just how much damage you are doing to yourself.
