Not the World, just the US
This issue is just a symptom of the patent disease. While I agree the the patent holder is due compensation for the use of their invention - I'm not sure that they should hold the patent at all. Immersion was founded in 1993 and as other posters have pointed out, the shaking joystick has been around for a time before 1993. The idea obviously came from actual aircraft that have "stick shakers" to warn pilots of a stall.

The US is patent crazy (we even allow software only patents) and it's hurting technological advancement and causing the US to fall behind in tech.
