Choice
It is a matter of choice, but if you work for a company, someone else makes the choice for you. Most companies choose the platform that runs the software they need. At this point, most business software runs on Windows.

As far as the famous Apple resale value, most pc users use their machines as long as they can. When they finally retire them, there is little value left. One of the earlier posts mentioned a company finally retiring their Win98 machines. Companies I have worked for are the same. If a machine is still capable of doing the job, why replace it? This is a testament to the quality of the pc hardware (except for that Walmart junk).

As I said, Apple does make decent hardware, and I'll even add that it is on a par with the better PC models. But better? More stylish, maybe, if that spins your wheels. But in the end, Apple buys stuff from the same manufacturors that sell to the PC companies (hard drives, video cards, memory chips, Intel, etc.). Apple makes very little of the hardware in their machines. Where do you see in all this any significant difference? The only real difference is in the OS, especially now. But that difference locks the Mac user out of running 95% of the software titles out there. For some of us, that is too much of a hurdle to overcome.
