- Old rule of thumb : data will expand to fill all available storage.
-
This is excellent news! In my experience, more storage is always better.
When I started in computers (way back in 1980) everything was either on 8" floppys, paper punch tape, or huge drums. When I got my first hard drive for my Apple IIe, I thought I would *never* fill it. Then I did. The same thing happened when MegaByte+ plus sized drives were released, and then again when the GigaByte+ units became available.
Every time storage space advanced I was amazed at the amount of space we now had, and every time I filled it up in short order -- and was left wondering what I ever did before it was available.
Right now I have access to several times that volume of storage on our work network using stacks of NAS arrays from the big-vendor in the field, but the idea of having TeraBytes on my home desktop is sending shivers down my spine.
