Drive Size vs Arrays
So the question is how much of a market is there for 8 TB drives. Is the video market that big, or is it considered a niche?

There aren't any 8 TB drives... YET. The biggest drive currently available is about 1/2 TB or 500 GB.

The article mentioned the new VooDoo box will be coming with 16 drives - from the overall capacity, it's a safe bet they're 500 GBs each.

Given VooDoo's reputation as a gaming PC maker, it would be also be a safe bet they're going to use fast drives - something akin to the WD5000KS which is a 7200 RPM SATA 3 GB/s (SATA 2) drive from Western Digital. Estimated price for these puppies is $350 when they're released in mid-March.

Given the price of these systems, there's little to NO doubt they're definitly niche systems - for now. However, given the trends of the last 20 odd years, that much capacity probably won't sound quite so farfetched in the next 5 - 10 years. And the way that capacity's been on the increase, it won't be too surprising to see Terabyte sized drives before long.
