No, they've been selling a 64-bit version of Windows for around 4 years.
MS developed a 64-bit version of Windows XP for the Itanium processor, and I believe it was available at or within a year of the original XP release in 2001. Windows Server 2003 also has included an Itanium version from around the start. Also, they created a refresh of the Itanium XP based on the 2003 version, calling it Windows XP 64-Bit Edition Version 2003.

That said, with the popularity of x64 and the lackluster interest in Itanium, the desktop version of XP for Itanium has been discontinued when they introduced XP x64.
