That pretty much sums up my understand ing of where things seem to be sitting today. The wonder world of patents eh.

Looks like a similar type issue has just come up in copyright with the new movie "The Da vinci Code". Seems someone wrote a bok a few years back, based on the idea that Christ was married. In copyright law, you do not get protection for "Ideas". The thing one seeks copyright protection for must extend beyond an idea, so theorecticlly, this other book would be protected as the whole, and no substantial portion could be legally copied, but the "idea" of Christ being married cannot be protected. This seems like a shot at another quick cash grab to me, make the claim just before the release of the movie, threaten to hold up its release for two years while the court tries to figure out what copyright law is, and hope the studio will settle for big bucks quickly so the injunction on the release of the movie is either lifted or does not take place.

Hopefully the powers that be are going to get a little sick of the patent/copyright cash grab thats unfolding faster and faster and put an end to it soon.
