Also tricky.
I'm glad the statement in the article was a mistake, though I know that one section of a legal document can change the plain meaning of another section.

Part of your quote is significant:

This patent license is nonexclusive, royalty-free and worldwide, and covers all patent claims you control or have the right to sublicense, at the time you distribute the covered work or in the future, that would be infringed or violated by the covered work or any reasonably contemplated use of the covered work.

When I read "all patent claims you ... have the right to sublicense", I wonder if that means the code author has to be sure that the terms of the sublicense are ahm... suitable, and do not change to be unsuitable in the future. And "reasonably contemplated use" is another potential pitfall, requiring the code author to make some prescient guesses.

Given the number of licenses and the possibility of changes and all the waus code can be used, I wonder how much legal expertise will be required of someone whose interest is in writing code.
