Can't compare the two
That's why Apple makes QuickTime for Windows and OSX.
That's why Real makes players for Windows, OSX and Linux.

Because if they didn't, they would cut themselves out of 95% of the market. The reverse simply can't be said.

The only reasons I can see for not making WMP for the Mac are
1) technical incompetence,

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't there currently a version of WMP for Mac? So technically, they are able to.

2) trying to use access to media as
leverage to get you to buy a Windows machine over a Mac

The argument was always that Microsoft used its monopoly on the desktop to move in on the media market. Now you are saying that Microsoft wants to use its monopoly on the media market to improve its monopoly on the desktop market? What? How does Microsoft have a monopoly on media if 60% of all portable media players will not play WMA? Now you are just getting desperate.

I propose 3) Microsoft does not want to spend the manpower maintaining an application that no Apple users want and at best will give them access to another 5% of the market (assuming that everyone who owns a Mac doesn't also have access to a Windows PC). This makes most sense to me but then what do I know, I don't think different. happy
