Plans for VirtualPC?
"The company has not announced definitive plans for its other main Mac product, Virtual PC."

I guess that announcement was made when Microsoft has acquired Connectix - an original creator of VirtualPC.

Now you have trouble installing Windows XP if you did not purchase the limited version bundled with VirtualPC and that bundle is obviously more expensive than boxed or OEM WIndows XP. So what does that mean?

Besides iEmulator will eventually kill VirtualPC as it misses emulation of just few things. Anyway VirtualPC has trouble with USB emulation and Firewire was not managed to be emulated. For most works you can easily run DOS, Windows95,98,ME,2000,XP and Linux in iEmulator (have done a few of those including the newest SUSE 10) and it works...slowly, but it works.

In a few months, iEmulator will reach higher level than VirtualPC for fraction of price and no requirement to be bundled with special version of Windows and then what?... Microsoft buying iEmulator to kill? I do not think so because it is based on free Bochs and that is unlikely to become Microsoft property anytime soon. In the meantime, Apple went Intel with a few times faster architecture and probably support for emulation Intel PC on Intel processor powered Mac will improve so, you will be able to run most of Intel based systems in workable fashion in a window on your Mac if needed. BTW I have already tried some more advanced video editing suite (not-supported anymore unfortunately, but you could meet its creators - engineers stolen for ideas for Adobe Premiere) that I had purchased for a couple hundreds of $ in 1999. Although I could not capture and the whole thing was slow and not up to the task, it worked. So I suppose that if you have investment in old software on old platform you may reuse some of your favorites under emulator and and legacy system on next Mac's.
